I really love nerds. Really. They are so clever coming up with intellectual pranks. They take a normal high school prank and tweak it. And don't get in trouble for it.
The brainiac boys in my high school had a little clique all their own. And because they were smart and well behaved, they were considered cute when it came to their 'pranks.'
Such is the case with Senior Day at my high school...1971. These boys planned their work, and worked their plan.
There were about 6 of them, I think, that hung out together and hatched this funny, brilliant scheme. On the morning of Senior Day (we all know what that is, right? The Seniors have a day off from school towards the end of their Senior Year to plan skits about teachers and students and perform these antics in front of the entire student body at the end of the day in the school gym....oooohhhhhhh, that's right; students can't do this any more....we've got to TEACH TO THE TEST!) these wild and crazy guys laid in wait.
Their plan was to wait at the end of the street of a our Senior English teacher, Mr. Cope, and blockade the street when his car came over the hill as he left for school that morning. He did not know what was about to happen because of that hill in the road that dumped into a 4-way stop. And there were the guys...all their cars blocking his entrance to the main drag.
And so, they kidnapped him. Drove him to school and placed (with his cooperation) him in a homemade coffin built of wood. Just his right measurements. Took planning, right? They then took pictures of him and passed them around school before the Senior Day Rally to try to drum up enough money for the ransom.
I guess it depended on what kind of grade you had in his class as to how much was contributed - just kidding - but I don't remember the amount of the ransom; I do know, it took a while to get that money before they let him loose.
