Chapter 6 Title is "Perfect Parenting, Part II; or: Would a Roshanda by Any Other Name Smell as Sweet?"
The topic is that "The belief in parental power is manifest in the first official act a parent commits: giving the baby a name. As any modern parent knows, the baby-naming industry is booming, as evidenced by a proliferation of books, websites, and baby-name consultants. Many parents seem to believe that a child cannot prosper unless it is hitched to the right name; names are seen to carry great aesthetic or even predictive powers."
Is naming destiny?
Here are some fun names of students - or our own children - that had names you could play around with.
Kathy mentioned that she got her undergrad degree with a Crystal Fountain! Blaaaahaha!!!
Joanna went to undergrad school with a Twinkle Starr. She had a double trouble - her birthday was April 1st. Really.
Joanna's cousin was thinking of naming her new baby Christopher if she had a boy. But then she realized he would have been Chris Cross.
Joanna's first born is named Lee. She really liked the name Grant for her second born boy, but then realized she'd have a Lee and Grant in the same household.
Kathy once taught with a Ms. White who married a Mr. Green and moved to Gray!
Kathy's son, Wright, was always called "Wrong" by one of our fellow teachers.
And another gal we both knew, Bonnie White, married Ken Knight. You figure that one out yourself.
Know some yourself? Would LOVE to hear from you!
